Introduction

The Cormac Volunteer Scheme supports individuals and community groups in making a difference in their local area. The scheme can support almost any voluntary work on Cornwall Council-owned land, such as maintenance of flower beds and park areas, woodland management on countryside sites, and repair and maintenance on public rights of way.

Volunteers also work on Cornwall Housing land, helping to keep their estates looking their best.

Our volunteers’ work helps keep areas looking cared for, discouraging antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping.

The Council remains responsible for providing the agreed level of service across all of their areas of responsibility, with volunteers helping to enhance that baseline level.

Ideas for you

If you know of a Cornwall Council-owned area of land that you’re interested in sprucing up, please email [email protected] to discuss your proposal.

Where appropriate, please speak to your neighbours or local residents group(s) to see whether they would be interested in joining you.

Your Cormac Community Partnership Officer will be happy to meet with you and discuss what might be possible. If approved and agreed upon, a simple sign-up process will give you permission to carry out work and cover you for public liability insurance while you’re volunteering with us.

Other things that might help

You can speak to your Parish Council or local Cornwall Councillor about your proposal and check that they are happy to support your efforts.

Cormac provides a “tool trailer” free of charge to signed-up groups and can also arrange to take away green waste from volunteer sites.

If you are thinking of organising a litter pick, please contact Clean Cornwall through the website www.cleancornwall.org to register your pick and loan equipment or arrange for rubbish removal at the end of your session.
