Safer Cornwall has launched a new Summer Plan for Cornwall. The plan sets out how we will tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and support communities during the busy summer months.
In Cornwall we know that we see 17% more crimes and a third more anti-social behaviour in the summer. In partnership with the police and other agencies, Safer Cornwall is providing extra support in the places that need it most. This includes coastal hotspots and beaches as well as our town centres.
The Safer Summer Plan will run until 30th September. It has a focus on tackling shoplifting and anti-social behaviour. It also includes initiatives to prevent violence against women and girls and make public spaces safer. We aim to provide a balance of enforcement where it’s needed alongside help and support.
The Safer Summer Plan includes enhanced high visibility patrols in hotspot areas, funded by the Home Office. This initiative is being delivered by the police and partners in Camborne, Penzance and Truro. There are also extra street marshal patrols in Bodmin, St Austell and Newquay.
The Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Youth Outreach services are working together in local areas. The focus is on preventing anti-social behaviour and promoting positive activities. There is a wide range of activities available through our partners over the summer months. More information can be found about these here Playwaze – Finder.
The Safer Summer Plan is part of the local delivery of the Government’s Safer Streets summer initiative. The Home Office launched this at the end of June. The aim is to support town centres to be vibrant places where people want to live, work and visit.
