Last Thursday, the Penzance Safe and Well Hub was bustling with activity as the Service Director for Communities, Mel Brain, visited the site which is based at the John Daniels Centre. The hub, a warm and welcoming space run by the Complex Needs team, offers a unique multi-agency environment to meet the needs of the Penzance community.
The centre hosts various services under one roof, including the Kernow Recovery Community (led by our Experts by Experience), WeAreWithYou, National Probation Service, Refugee and Asylum Seeker Resettlement Team, Rough Sleeper Resettlement Team, Community Safety Officers and Public Health. Thursdays offer a broad range of activities, drop-ins, and appointment services, ensuring comprehensive support for our community.
Growing Links, a local Community Interest Company (CIC), who provide food to those struggling to access it in Penzance, and run a lunch and dinner service at the Hub, as well as gardening activities to grow their own produce, invited us to have a seat at the table, and it’s safe to say the food was absolutely exquisite.
Additionally, the Community Safety Officer from Mid Cornwall, Helen Toms visited to check out the space and share best practices on her patch further up the line.
Mel had this to say about her visit: “I wanted to say thank you for hosting me yesterday and showing a thriving, buzzing Safe & Well Hub. As I said to Celia yesterday, it was what I expected but also so much more. It was lovely seeing service users mingling with professionals, not just because they had a meeting but because they happened to be in the same space together and it was relaxed and sociable. It really felt like a safe space, a space where people wanted to be and where they felt valued and respected: it absolutely felt inclusive. It was my absolute pleasure to spend the morning with you and meeting everyone.”

The Safe and Well Hub is dedicated to offering a supportive and inclusive environment in the heart of Penzance, making a significant impact on the lives of those in our community.
