Uniting Through Food: KRC’s Christmas Gathering

16 December 2024

A festive feast

To celebrate their first year of opening, the Kernow Recovery Community in Truro hosted a Christmas lunch, open to all the past, current and prospective members. Held in the usual meeting space in Pydar House, staff and volunteers from partner organisations dished up 35 hot Christmas dinners, cooked entirely in air fryers and slow cookers.

The usual set-up of the space had been transformed to hold a table long enough to span the room, with personalised place cards with encouraging messages included to show every individual that they are valued and are an integral part of the beating heart of the KRC.

The space, although alive with laughter, warmth and friendship, remained the safe space that the KRC is
known to be. In true Christmas fashion, a few members fell asleep, in the knowledge that they were safe
and secure.
After lots of positive feedback from all who attended and triumphant teamwork from the Complex
Needs Team and their Experts by Experience, it’s looking like a Christmas meal for next year is already
in the planning stages!

Although this event was full of laughter, fun and positivity, the KRC understands that Christmas can be
a difficult time for people in recovery.
Truro KRC will remain open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 11am-1pm. Feel free to come along and join in – everyone is invited.
