Bleed control kits

Safer Cornwall has secured funding to install 25 HeartSafe bleed control kits free of charge in public places across Cornwall, providing the public with immediate access to lifesaving equipment if someone is experiencing a catastrophic bleed.

On average, it only takes about 4 minutes to lose a critical amount of blood from a traumatic injury which could be caused by a road traffic collision, sporting injury, accident in the home or at work, or a violent assault.

These kits are designed to provide an immediate, lifesaving intervention, after calling 999 and before the ambulance arrives on the scene.

Strategically placed in highly visible red dispensers, these trauma kits will be publicly accessible in central locations across Cornwall.

To find out where your nearest kit is located use the Bleed Kit Map | HeartSafe® AED Locator – this interactive map shows kit locations across the country and gives you the address, the type of kit and a photograph of where it is, along with the What3words Location reference. Additional kits can also be purchased direct from HeartSafe and registered on the map.

Cornwall’s bleed kits are located here:

More locations will be added once they have been installed.

The kits will be located next to or nearby community defibrillators in Bodmin, Liskeard, Bude, Launceston, Saltash, Truro, St Austell, Newquay, Pool, Redruth, Camborne, Penzance and Helston.

Using the kit does NOT require any training – it contains trauma dressings and simple step-by-step instructions on how to use them, once 999 has been called.

The scheme is a joint initiative between Safer Cornwall and HeartSafe, with thanks to Avon and Somerset Police for their help and advice.
