The Truro Safe Profile provides a picture of crime and anti-social behaviour in the City. The profile is produced each year to provide an understanding about what crimes are occurring, when they are most likely to happen as well as a profile of anti-social behaviour. This information is used to inform the delivery plan for the City and helps to ensure interventions are focused on the most important issues.
Truro Safe facilitates a multi-agency approach to community safety in order to improve feelings of safety and reduce the risk of harm to the community and protect vulnerable groups.
Truro Safe involves community members in the work of the partnership and encourages social inclusion and community participation by being part of a problem solving process and having a sense of pride in Truro
The priorities for Truro Safe are outlined below which are based on the evidence presented in the Truro City Profile and feedback from the Residents Survey.
Truro Safe meets regularly to ensure that regular dynamic intelligence and updates about emerging community safety, crime and antisocial behaviour across the town is fed in and acted upon.
In 2024, Truro Safe was busy rolling out a range of programmes and projects funded by the Home Office’s Safer Streets fund. This included installing new street lighting and CCTV cameras, delivering a Healthy Relationships programme in partnership with Truro and Penwith College, increasing youth outreach and drug and alcohol worker provision, and supporting additional police patrols. Together, these measures aimed to tackle pockets of anti‑social behaviour through a balanced approach of support and enforcement.
We have undertaken collaborative work with civil enforcement partners to focus activity in hotspot locations as well as target empty properties with Environmental Protection and Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service that have been attracting ASB; responded dynamically to local demands and working collaboratively with Truro BID to support businesses with the Shopwatch scheme and any challenges they face in the city. The designated ASB caseworker continues to work hard to build relationships with all members of the community especially those perpetrating ASB with a balanced approach between
support and enforcement.
We will continue to work with youth provision partners such as Young People Cornwall and Action for Children to support young people, address any concerns and target specific areas with outreach work continuing the legacy left from the Safer Streets funding and additional provision provided as a result. This includes new equipment such as a mobile cinema and generator as well as a continuation of community youth football sessions in partnership with Truro City Council. Truro Safe is also supporting Truro BID with their Truro City Support Security team and shaping the way they support both businesses and the community.
