Safer Falmouth partners, including local policing teams and Cornwall’s Road Safety experts, have been working together in Falmouth to address growing community concerns around the illegal and antisocial use of e‑bikes.
As part of this joint approach, an illegally modified e‑bike was seized on Saturday 14 February after officers from the Neighbourhood Support Team (NST) identified the rider operating it without using pedals due to an unlawful motor enhancement.

Inspector Rick Milburn, who heads up neighbourhood policing in the area, said:
“Ultimately, we want to keep everyone safe – that includes pedestrians, other road users and the riders themselves, and these seizures are a necessary step to make sure we do just that.
“We know that the illegal use of e-bikes has been a significant concern for local residents.
“Whilst the overwhelming majority of bike users continue to ride their bikes safely and in accordance with the law, it’s those who are using illegally modified bikes and using them carelessly that our officers will be out on the streets to identify.”
Insp Milburn added:
“If you see or suspect someone is using an e-bike illegally, please report it to us online or by calling 101.
“If they are causing immediate danger, phone 999.”
The operation followed a five‑hour foot patrol by the NST, who—alongside Safer Cornwall partners —checked licensed premises, engaged with local businesses around shoplifting concerns, and gathered intelligence linked to antisocial behaviour and community safety priorities. Road Safety teams were also involved, ensuring the work aligned with wider efforts to reduce harm on Cornwall’s roads.
The Neighbourhood Support Team is a dedicated resource working across Cornwall, providing high‑visibility patrols and targeted enforcement to disrupt criminality and antisocial behaviour, while supporting local communities.
An NST officer added:
“Whilst we cover all of Cornwall, it was great to receive positive feedback from the public whilst carrying out our foot patrols in Falmouth.”
