Introduction

There are around 35,000 house fires and over 300 fire related deaths in Great Britain each year. But by following advice you can reduce the risk of a fire in your home to help keep you safe.

There are many things you can do to protect yourself from fires such as fitting working smoke alarms, keeping matches and lighters away from children, not over-loading electrical sockets, not smoking in bed or on soft furnishings, making sure combustibles are not too close to heat sources and planning your escape route.
